Wow, they're NOT just a delicious addition to salad!

1. Cucumbers contain most of the vitamins you need every day, just one cucumber contains Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium and Zinc.

2. Feeling tired in the afternoon, put down the caffeinated soda and pick up a cucumber. Cucumbers are a good source of B Vitamins and Carbohydrates that can provide that quick pick-me-up that can last for hours.

3. Tired of your bathroom mirror fogging up after a shower? Try rubbing a cucumber slice along the mirror, it will eliminate the fog and provide a soothing, spa-like fragrance.

4. Are grubs and slugs ruining your planting beds? Place a few slices in a small pie tin and your garden will be free of pests all season long. The chemicals in the cucumber react with the aluminum to give off a scent undetectable to humans but drive garden pests crazy and make them flee the area.

5 Looking for a fast and easy way to remove cellulite before going out or to the pool? Try rubbing a slice or two of cucumbers along your problem area for a few minutes, the phytochemicals in the cucumber cause the collagen in your skin to tighten, firming up the outer layer and reducing the visibility of cellulite. Works great on wrinkles too!!!

6.. Want to avoid a hangover or terrible headache? Eat a few cucumber slices before going to bed and wake up refreshed and headache free. Cucumbers contain enough sugar, B vitamins and electrolytes to replenish essential nutrients the body lost, keeping everything in equilibrium, avoiding both a hangover and headache!!

7. Looking to fight off that afternoon or evening snacking binge? Cucumbers have been used for centuries and often used by European trappers, traders and explores for quick meals to thwart off starvation.

8. Have an important meeting or job interview and you realize that you don't have enough time to polish your shoes? Rub a freshly cut cucumber over the shoe, its chemicals will provide a quick and durable shine that not only looks great but also repels water.

9. Out of WD 40 and need to fix a squeaky hinge? Take a cucumber slice and rub it along the problematic hinge, and voila, the squeak is gone!

10. Stressed out and don't have time for massage, facial or visit to the spa? Cut up an entire cucumber and place it in a boiling pot of water, the chemicals and nutrients from the cucumber with react with the boiling water and be released in the steam, creating a soothing, relaxing aroma that has been shown the reduce stress in new mothers and college students during final exams.

11. Just finish a business lunch and realize you don't have gum or mints? Take a slice of cucumber and press it to the roof of your mouth with your tongue for 30 seconds to eliminate bad breath, the phytochemcials will kill the bacteria in your mouth responsible for causing bad breath.

12. Looking for a 'green' way to clean your faucets, sinks or stainless steel? Take a slice of cucumber and rub it on the surface you want to clean, not only will it remove years of tarnish and bring back the shine, but is won't leave streaks and won't harm you fingers or fingernails while you clean.

13. Using a pen and made a mistake? Take the outside of the cucumber and slowly use it to erase the pen writing, also works great on crayons and markers that the kids have used to decorate the walls!!

Excited about my newest product....Button Earrings

New Product: Button Earrings by Portable Graffiti

The earrings were a joint effort between myself and Tami, the Ole Bag Lady  on Zibbet. Her husband helped, too. I made the buttons with flat backs, mailed them to Tami, hubby drilled the holes, Tami made the earrings and mailed them back to me. I took the photos and am listing them. Showing just 3 of them, but you can see the rest of the earrings here.

This is a test to see how you like them. There is only ONE pair of each design I am listing. Better grab 'em quick if you like them.

Excitement at the post office today

I know, I know I owe this blog some blog posts, but this one has to jump ahead and be posted now. My daughter went in the post office to get the mail and came out smiling with packages held behind her back. She knew I had been waiting for an envelope from my friend Tami. One of the packages arrived today and so did a book from Paperbackswap.

The package from Tami AKA he Ole Bag Lady was stuffed with fabric bags she made for my mirrors that I sell. I had mailed the fabric to her and she did the sewing. I'll be matching these bags up with mirrors in my shop.  The fabric is new from recycled fabric sample books.

The book we got today is "Staying at Sam's" a children's book about how different families can be. It was a controversial book that was out of print for many years and very hard to find. I have seen copies of it being sold for a few hundred dollars. However, it has finally been reprinted by a new publisher so might be hard to sell for a few hundred now. I now have two copies of the original book, 1989, and might decide to sell one at Wild Goose Chase.

There is one more thing I got in the mail today, but that's a surprise for tomorrow.

I have 4 Zibbets I invite you check out.

Thanks for reading,
Judy

So many things to blog about.....

I have so many things to blog about I am getting behind and had to make a written list.

So coming soon........

  1. A blog post about a contest entered on "Great Finds" and won vegan makeup from "Mineral Love." Since I don't wear makeup, Mineral Love put together a package of makeup for BOTH my daughters using photographs of them. As soon as both daughters are home at the same time I'll get them to use it and I'll take photos to post here.
  2. A blog post about an email I got announcing I was the winner of fabric drawstring bag that turned out to be a mistake, because I actually did not win. Wait till you read how that turned out......it;s a touching story. Coming soon with photos.
  3. A blog post about a super nice buyer who used the origami she bought from my daughter in one awesome wall decoration for her home. Don't miss that post!
  4. A blog post about a trade I did of buttons for a pillow and where that pillow was headed....... This will be a fun one.
  5. A blog post about my daughter's birthday, the one who loves duckies, and the 2 cool duckies I found on Zibbet.
  6. A blog post about a seller on Etsy who makes fiber bowls. My daughter bought me one of the bowls 2 Christmases ago and OMG what happened to.

I suppose I should blog about the 6 orders from 2 of my Zibbet shops that are spread out on my desk right now.....but I'm quitting blogging for now and going to finish up my orders.

Stop back in soon, please.

Burning the midnight oil

Round about midnight I sold a shop banner and decided to stay up and get it done right away. Really nice customer who knew just what she wanted incorporated into her banner. Leopard and Hot Pink.

Sewlicitations has been sewing since she was a young child. You can read about her experience here.

She'll be adding items to her Zibbet Shop this week. Mark her shop as a favorite and check back to see her work.

She was pleased with her banner and left me fabulous feedback.

If you would like any custom graphic work for a banner, avatar, business cards, ads, flyers, bookmark designs, invitations, birthday cards, holiday cards, you can contact me here.

I can also design pinback buttons, mirrors, magnets or key chains for your shop or any event. Samples of these products can be found at Portable Graffiti.

I was featured on LOC Designs Studio blog

Woke up this morning...okay well maybe I am still not awake...but I am working on a first cuppa coffee....and found out I was one of several Zibbet Shops featured on LOC Design Studio's blog.

Vicki who has a Zibbet Shop wrote a nice article on Mother's Day Trivia.

Vicki used my newest button, "Mother Hen" which I made from a graphic design created by Vink who also has a Zibbet Shop.

I also used the Vink Design to create this button for chicken lovers, backyard chicken enthusiasts, homesteaders, poultry farmers, and urban chicken keepers.

Moving on down the road....

When I was a kid my family moved around a LOT! My father worked for the government, so I spent my childhood moving. We also took weekend road trips and thus my father collected a lot of maps. As an adult I moved around pretty often also, living in New York, New Hampshire, Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia, California and Florida. IN addition to road maps, my parents subscribed to National Geographic Magazine. Every magazine comes with a cool map as large as a wall poster. Guess who ended up with all the maps?

Now it's time to use those maps up. I am using all the parts I can and then will recycle what is left. I am a fanatic when it comes to keeping things out of the landfills.

Here are some of the map buttons I made so far in 4 sizes. What map button would love to have? Just ask me. Maybe it is a favorite place you to live or a dream place you wish to move to. Let me see if I can find it for you and make you a button. Choose a Big 4" or Standard 2 1/4", my favorite Medium size 1 3/4" or a Tiny 1 1/4" button. You can find my map buttons HERE.

Yum Yum from Poocheze

I made the coolest trade on Zibbet. Zibbet is the best place on line to shop for Art and Crafts. It's just like a craft show. You meet nice folks, buy cool stuff, trade with fellow crafters.

I made buttons for Poocheze with her business logo. Poocheze baked these yummy treats for my dogs. She also made this hot cloth bag for the dog treats. We use cloth napkins, cloth sandwich bags, cloth tablecloths, cloth everything. So we were thrilled to find a fabric reusable bag for dog treats.
